Tinder App: 3 Reasons Parents Hate It

Prior to cell phones, teenagers use to engage in an activity called courting. The current age of cell phones consists of teens roaming through profile descriptions and pictures trying to find that perfect companion. The new dating app Tinder blows it all out of the water.

Tinder is the new hot iOS dating app that is currently on fire in the market. The app creates a vault of Facebook profile photos that are shown to the opposite sex. They can either heart the picture by pushing the green button or they can discard the picture by hitting the X button.  Everything is totally anonymous unless two people heart each other which creates a match. Once a match is created, then the users can message each other.  They can even take it to the next step of seeing each other in person since the app reveals your location.

The app is gaining 10 to 20,000 downloads a day in the apple store. Tinders have reviewed each other over 3 billion times! Here are the reasons teens can’t take their hands off the app.

3 Reasons Why Teens Love It

1. Ego- Tinders allows the user to know instantly who finds them hot. It becomes a huge ego boost for the average teen. Facebook likes don’t come close to the klout that matches carry. You can imagine teenage boys roaming the halls showing off the number of hot matches in their cell phones.

2. No rejection- You never know when someone hits the X button to reject you. Tinder users are only notified when someone likes them. There is no fear of rejection at all with this app. Users can click on photos until there is no tomorrow.

3. Hook ups – Once you have a match you know that there s a physical attraction with the other person. Tinder allows the user to set parameters around location. A user can set distance between 5-100 miles. Teens can set the distance low in order to find matches that live in their neighborhood or community.

Although Tinder is a fun app, there are some causes for concern for parents. Here are three areas of concern for parents.

3 Reasons Why Parents Hate It

1. Hook Ups- If teens are getting matches, then you should believe that the next step is to meet in person. Tinder is being promoted as one of the best one night stand apps on the market.

2.  Stalkers- It is inevitable that teens are going to like or heart other teens by accident. Tinder promotes  teens stalking each other because of the perceived notion of mutual attraction. The issues have been prevalent with other apps that share locations.

3. Predators- Tinder is dominated by teenagers posting risqué photos. Tinder becomes the playground for males in their late 20s to 30s to try to match with younger females. Since matches can take place by location, it would not be difficult for a predator to look at a photo to determine the teen’s favorite hangout.

Tinder is a fun app that may turn out to be one of the best dating games ever. The point is that teens have to view it as a game. Parents need to make sure to review the site and have frank conversations with their teens. If your teen is getting matches, then it is critical to investigate the other person on additional social media sites for verification.
