Teen Pimps: 3 Ways to Stop Them
The new age of Prostitution consists of teens pimping out other teens. The old school notion of hookers and street walking prostitutes has given way to a new age form of prostitutuion that consists of teens forming prostitution rings within their own peer group. What makes this form of prostitution unique and dangerous is that there are no identified adults spearheading the ring. It is a prostitutuion ring that is run only by teenagers.
The Canadian case of the three Ottawa girls is a perfect example of this new phenomenon. This past June three Ottawa girls, two that were 15 and one 16 year old, were arrested on a total of 74 charges that ranged from Human Trafficking, Procuring for Prostitution, Sexual Assault, Printing and Publishing Child Pornography.
The girls are charged with starting a sex ring that recruited 9 teens from the ages of 13-17 through social media websites such as Facebook. The victims were allegedly forced to take drugs such as ectasy (aka Molly), alcohol, and marijuana to get them in a relaxed state to take nude and semi nude pictures to post on online dating sites.
Prostitutuion is allowed to run rampant on social media sites due to a lack of parental monitoring. Although there is a large number of parents monitoring teens of Facebook, teens have moved on to 3rd party phone apps (KiKI Messenger, Snapchat, etc) to have covert conversations. Current monitoring software is not able to monitor 3rd party apps because all information is stored in the cloud instead of the device.
Here are threee steps parents can take:
1.Download monitoring software- Download stealth software prior to giving cell phones to your child. Make sure that it is an application that is hidden that can monitor some 3rd party messenger apps.
2.Conduct Surveillance Checks on Phone- When your teen is either sleep or not present, review all messenger apps on the phone to insure that nothing illegal is taking place.
3.Drug Screen- Conduct random drug screens on your teen to ensure that they are not addicited to Molly, Marijuana, or other drugs. Most pimps use drugs as a way to lure women into prostitution. This is especially true for teen prostitutes.
Make sure to turn any evidence into the police to target any predators. It is important to talk with the vice division within the police department since they specialize in prostitution.
